Bruce Almighty

I just watched an old dvd, well I lie, it's an old vcd. 'Bruce Almighty'. Some of you may remember it, it's the one where Jim Carrey plays Bruce, a man upset with God because nothing was going right with his life. He then met God himself, (played by the almost almighty Morgan Freeman who then gave him God powers to use as he wishes. Bruce of course uses this power selfishly and became successful, only at the expense of overlooking the world's prayers, including those of his girlfriend of 5 years, Grace (Jennifer Aniston). He becomes an asshole, in other words, and loses sight of their relationship and her happiness. Instead of proposing to her after giving her hints (day at a spa, dinner at the very restaurant they had their first date, on his knees at dinner), he announces his own promotion. She was upset, but still tried to make it up by going to a party he's having for his promotion. She caught him in a compromising situation with his fellow anchor and dumps him (naturally). So he tried to get her back, but she refuses. He tried to interfere with her free will but was unable to do so.

One day he decided to look through the prayers (in a program he created called "Yahweh", which functions like an email account) and did a search for Grace. He finds that all her prayers were for him. Prayers for him to end his struggles, for him to find meaning, etc. Then he received an alert of an incoming prayer from Grace. He transported himself to witness Grace saying her prayers 'live', and he finds himself outside the window of Grace's bedroom in her best friend's apartment. There she was crying in bed, telling God that she still loves him. "Please God, I don't wanna hurt anymore. Please God, please, please, please let me let him go." It was heartbreaking. So Bruce got depressed and was eventually run over by a truck. He met God at the gates of heaven, and resigned himself to fate because he finally gives up retaliating. God, after reasoning why Bruce was created, manages to persuade him to give a prayer to something that he really cares for, and he finally says a prayer for Grace. He wants her to be happy, whatever that takes, and that she will meet someone who will always see her the way he sees her.

Of course in the end God brought him back to life, and Grace was the one who gave her blood to save him. They came back together and got married and were very happy together.


But life is not a Hollywood movie, is it?
